About Us
Housekeeping Publishing is located in Maryland. We have been in the housekeeping business for over twenty years, with experience in hotels, hospitals, retirement communities, nursing homes, offices, and private homes.
The concept of a housekeeping department originated with Florence Nightingale, an English nurse and the founder of modern nursing. Miss Nightingale separated the housekeeping and dietary functions from nursing in 1859, which until then had been the responsibility of nursing.
The first recorded hospitality settings were described as inns, dating back to biblical times, which were mostly cleaned by their owners. Office buildings and medical laboratories were, for the most part, cleaned by the working staff and were never allowed to be touched by anyone but the person working there, for fear something would be tampered with or destroyed.
